Our approach

Where children bloom and parents breathe easy

Choosing a nursery for your child is one of the most important decisions you will make as a parent. At Blooming Years, we want you to feel completely confident in that choice. That means being open about how we work, what your child's day looks like, and how we support the transition from home to nursery.

We believe children learn best through play, connection, and consistent relationships. Across all our nurseries, you will find the same warm approach: carefully planned enabling environments, delicious homemade meals and healthy snacks throughout the day, and a team that genuinely knows your child.

Our settling approach

A progressive, gradual start for every child

We take settling in seriously. Every child joins at their own pace, with sessions that gradually increase in length as their confidence grows. It starts with parents present to explore the space together, and builds week by week until your child is happily independent.

If your child or family needs more time, we work with you. The timeline can be amended to fit your family's needs - the goal is that both you and your child feel ready.

Our promise to you

We speak with you every day during settling. When you want a deeper conversation, we hold a termly one-to-one to talk through your child's development, what they are enjoying, and what is coming next.

  1. Before you start

    A call with the team

Before your child's first session, our team will get in touch to find out what helps them feel safe and settled. We learn their routine, what they enjoy, what comforts them, and any questions you have. We plan the first session around what you tell us.

  2. First session

    You stay with your child

Your child's first session is about exploring the environment together. You are there the whole time. No pressure, no rush.

  3. Second session

    A short, confident goodbye

We encourage parents to leave shortly after drop-off. We guide you through saying a warm, clear goodbye to help limit separation anxiety. Your child learns that you always come back.

  4. Building up

    Getting familiar, staying longer

We gradually increase session length, starting from around an hour and building up. The first week is about building familiarity on both sides - we observe what your child needs, what settles them, and what a good day looks like for them.

  5. Second week

    Independent at nursery

By the second week, the aim is for your child to stay independently and have at least one full meal with us. If either your child or you as a family need a little more time, we work through it together.

  6. Ongoing

    Staying connected

We speak with you every day. For more meaningful conversations about development, we hold a termly one-to-one - a dedicated time to talk about what your child is learning, how they are growing, and what is next.

Every parent worries. We help.

The questions we hear most often, answered honestly

From the moment you first visit to the day your child walks in confidently on their own, we are here for every question. Here are the ones we hear most.

  • Will my child cry at drop-off?

Most children do in the first few days. That is completely normal. What matters is what happens next. Our settling programme is designed to gently build confidence and familiarity. Within a couple of weeks, most children walk straight to their key person and get stuck into the day.

  • Will my child be just another face in the room?

Before your child starts, our team will get in touch to learn what helps them feel safe: their routine, favourite things, what comforts them, any concerns you have. We build their first sessions around what you share with us. You will always have a familiar face to speak to at drop-off and pick-up.

  • What if my child won't eat at nursery?

We prepare fresh meals using quality ingredients. Fussy eating at nursery is very common at first and we never pressure children to eat. Once they see their friends enjoying food in a relaxed, sociable setting, most start to try new things naturally within a few weeks.

  • What happens when my child is unwell?

We follow UKHSA guidance closely so our decisions are always clear and consistent. We explain our illness policy from the start so you always know what to expect. You will never receive a confusing or unexpected call - we keep communication straightforward and honest.

  • Will nursery disrupt their sleep routine?

Before your child starts we talk through their sleep routine together. We put a simple sleep plan in place that works for them, including nap times and a calm, familiar wind-down routine. In the first few weeks we adjust things gently based on how your child is responding.

  • How will I know they are okay?

We send a daily update so you can see how your child's day has been: how they slept, what they ate, their activities, and how they were feeling. In the first week we also send a quick message after drop-off so you know they have settled happily.

How we keep children safe

What safety and trust look like at Blooming Years

Safety is not something we advertise. It is something we build into every decision, every day. Here is how we make it real at Blooming Years.

  • The things that quietly keep children safe

Paediatric first aiders are on site at all times, and every sleeping child is regularly checked. We follow UKHSA guidance so decisions are clear and consistent, and importantly, we teach children fundamental hygiene and safety habits as they grow. Allergy plans are agreed with parents before a child starts and reviewed regularly. Any safeguarding concern is acted on immediately.

  • Honest communication, not brochure language

You can see our Ofsted report, menus, staff ratios and policies in full. If something goes wrong, we tell you the same day and explain clearly what happened and what we’ve done. You’re never left guessing.

  • Experienced staff who stay

High staff turnover is one of the biggest hidden risks in childcare. We do things differently. We invest in our team through training, coaching and genuine support. Their wellbeing matters here. That means familiar, trusted faces for your child each day, helping them feel secure, build confidence, and grow.

  • Funding and fees, handled clearly

We manage your 15 or 30 hours funding directly with the local authority and remind you when codes need renewing. We explain how funding works in plain terms, so you always know where you stand. Invoices are simple, transparent, and free from hidden extras.

We are always happy to talk through how things work at your local Blooming Years. Come for a visit and see it for yourself.
